Meet Our Teens

Meets Our Teens

Our 18 months, 184 stories shared as part of this project; including in-depth oral histories, group interviews, comments on social media, written anecdotes and even poems.  Over 1,130 images have been shared, including personal photos and company archives.

The stories our teens shared, is an alternative history of Barnsley; stories not often heard or shared. That alternative history has helped to illuminate the wider Barnsley story and its history within living memory.

Some of our teen’s stories have helped to influence our project exhibitions, magazine, podcasts and even our youth theatre project, The Teenage Wildlife Mixtape.

Throughout March and April, posters highlighting some of our teens were exhibited in Barnsley Markets in The Glassworks. Each poster depicts a different real Barnsley teenager from the 1950s through to 1990s, together with quotes from their oral history interviews and location photographs.

The posters were designed by Bluebeany, with images from our teenagers, Barnsley Archives and Tasker Trust.

Meet Our Teens Animation

Three of our teens have been immortalised in an animation, created by Monkie Limited.

Maureen from the 1960s, Linda from the 1970s and Tony from the 1980s, each have their stories and photographs brought to life using collage and digital puppets.
